Need advice from prospect experts

Postby jazzmanljg » Tue Jun 05, 2007 11:25 pm

I know this is a roster question, but I need help from people who know the minors, so I figured this was the place. I took over a team this year with minor league rosters (my first time). I'm doing fine in the league, but I have to admit my minor league knowledge is weak. We hold a draft following the MLB draft. We can only have 15 minor leaguers. I currently have 14. If I want more then one pick I need to drop a few players. Here's my roster.

Neil Walker - C - Pit.
Lars Anderson - 1B - Bos.
Nick Gorneault - OF - Ana.
Cyle Hankerd - OF - Ari.
Andrew McCutchen - OF - Pit.
Brad Snyder - OF - Clv.

Johnny Cueto - P - Cin.
Gio Gonzalez - P - CHW
Ubaldo Jimenez - P - Col.
Ian Kennedy - P - NYY
Jon Meloan - P - LAD
Yohan Pino - P - Min.
Ricky Romero - P - Tor.
Sean West - P - Fla.

I figured I'd probably want at least 3 picks, so I would need to drop 2 of my current players. Any thoughts?

i would drop Hankerd for sure. He is old now for a prospect and i don't see him being anything more than a reserve OF. The other one to drop is a tough call

I would drop Gorneault and Hankerd fairly easily. In face there are a few more that I would probably drop as well as this years class has good depth.

Hankred and Pino, drop them.
Is pushing for President Obama to pass a law requiring all citizens to be Chicago White Sox fans and make October 1st "White Sox Day" where we all dress as our favorite player. It maybe socialist, but I don't care.

Since when is 22 old for a prospect? Yeah, he is in Single A, but he was the MVP of the league last year and is raking again this year. He just earned Player of the Week honors. The Dbacks drafted him last year and given the success he has had I don't think they could ask for much better out of him.

Based on this, I would drop Gorneault and Pino.

Gorneault, Hankred and Pino. As Raiders_Umpire said, this year's class has a lot of depth. You could probably steal a few players that went later than they should have (Porcello, Smoker, Harvey.)
