Wondering what you think of it as a stradegy? For instance, in my keeper league the bottom manager is trying to rebuild. The first place team offered him Ortiz, Dunn, Hudson for Manny and Vlad. He left this up then offered me Manny, Vlad, Schmidt for A-Rod, Hardy, Lincecum, and Hill. Since, I wasn't gonna keep Hary, Linc, or Hill I took the deal. I overpaid, but if he took the Ortiz deal the league would have been over. So overpay yes/no?
I don't really understand what you're doing here. He basically turned Ortiz and 2 players he wasn't going to keep for Arod and 3 better players he won't keep. So you probably helped him out by giving him a top-3 player to keep. Who else does he have? Sound to me like he's trying to consolidate talent for the future and you're helping him
im not thrilled by the deal and would not have done it in a keeper to be sure. its hard to hear right now with such certainty you wont keep lincecum. he is very keepable.
I understand what you're saying, but I think you're approaching it wrong. I think you're better off trying to trade for like Manny, and you probably wouldn't have to give quite as much.
The original poster fears that if Team A gets the deal done, he'll be unstoppable. So he wants to know if it is worth it to overpay just to block Team A's chances of winning the league?
Personally, I'd be willing to do it if my offer is better and I don't wreck my own chances of winning.
I'm not sure about this particular trade you've pulled off, but I do believe in the theory of overpaying to keep someone else from getting the player.
Right now I am in a battle with a perennial league champion to get Travis Hafner from the last place guy. I'm worried about overpaying for Hafner but I'm even more worried about not making the deal and letting my rival get Hafner.
