Sleeper of the Year

Postby Dude86 » Tue Jan 27, 2004 2:38 pm

I believe that the sleeper of the year will be Eric Milton. I wouldn't be surprised to see him win 20 games with an ERA under 3.50 in philly. So who's your pick for sleeper of the year?

i agree that Milton is a big sleeper but winning 20 games for a 3 or 4 starter? i think maybe 15-17 wins seems about right, with a 3.5 era
I love my Diamondbacks!

I don't think Milton will be as good as people expect.......

my sleeper pick is Joe Nathan. He'll save 40 games with great ERA/WHIP and a ton of K's. Unless the Twins sign Urbina (doubtful because he wants a lot, and they won't pay a lot) in which case I'll pick Luis Matos.

I like Milton Bradley to have a good year and he seems to be going very late in most drafts.

What about Jesse Crain? Isnt he supposed to be the closer of the future for the twinkies?

From everything I have seen it looks like Nathan is going to be closing.

expecting 20 wins from Milton is too much, especially coming back from injury. 15 sounds more likely.

My sleeper of the year is new Mets SS K.Matsui. I think he will get over 100 runs hitting in the lead-off spot this year. I think he will get 40-plus steals. And have a .280 or higher BA.

My "Sleepers" of the year, by position:

C: Molina, B. ANA (New additions to Ana lineup will allow him to see better pitches)
1B: Konerko ChW (Many will "forget" about him PART1)
2B: Walker, T. ChC (Very "under-rated")
3B: Crede ChW (Poised for "break-out" season)
SS: Crosby Oak (Tejada will not be missed, well not totally, atleast)
OF: Cabrera Fla (Alot like Andruw Jones, only 20)
OF: Burrell Phi (Many will "forget" about him PART2, 35+ HR guy)
OF: Gerut Cle (quietly hit .279/22/75/4 last year in 127 games)
SP: Peavy SD (Jason Schmidt wasn't an All-Star overnight, either. This guy's got a solid 210 IP IN him and with SD's improved offense, 15+ wins is not a stretch)
MR: King, R. STL (Should get the call to set-up before Kline, quietly had 18 or so holds last year)
CL: Chacon COL (In addition to SP/RP eligibility, he'll get you around 30 saves and just maybe, the next Smoltz or Gagne success story???...naw...but you'll get him cheap ;)
