I email yahoo with the question EVERYONE wants to know, will Reyes be eligible for 2b at the start of the season. I have hear 15 games at 2B, then he will be availible but I asked Yahoo anyway.

I have a question that everyone on a fantasybaseball message board was wondering. It its obvious that Jose Reyes of the NY Mets is going to be playing second base this year. If we draft him, will we have to wait for 15 games before he is eligible at that position? Or will spring training games count as eligibility? Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Sports.

At the beginning of the Fantasy Baseball season, Yahoo! Sports will
place all players into positions based on information from official
rosters. Some players appear in multiple position lists, and are
eligible to fill any of those positions.

If a position player makes 15 appearances at a new position during the
season, he will become eligible to play that position in Yahoo! Sports
Fantasy Baseball.

Pitchers need to make three starts to become eligible as a starter and
five relief appearances to qualify as a reliever.

** Players will not lose positional eligibility during the season, even
if they do not appear at the position in 2003.

To find the number of games in which a player has appeared at a certain
position, click on their name. You will be taken to their Player
Profile. From there, click on the "Career" link. You will be able to
view the player's statistics for the season, and the number of games
played at each position.

Players will not necessarily be eligible for all positions listed in
their Player Profile.

So, if Reyes is on the Mets official roster as a second basemen, he will be one at the beginning of the season.

Some time back, in response to a similar question, I said that this is the way it worked. At the beginning of 2003, Aaron Boone had eligiblity at 3B and SS, and everyone knew he would start the season at 2B for the Reds to make room for Brandon Larson at 3B. Regardless, we had to wait 15 games for Yahoo to give him 2B eligibility. And considering the brevity of the Brandon Larson experiment, Boone almost didn't make it, logging 19 games total!
