I just traded for him and now I'm hearing he might be heading back to the minors. Is that true or not?

depends what happens with tracy

Postby mattlo » Sun Jun 03, 2007 4:36 pm

reynolds will no longer be the regular 3rd baseman when chad tracy comes back from the DL. tracy is currently on a rehab assignment and could be back in the majors next week. i hope you understood this when you traded for reynolds. the question is whether reynolds will stay with the team as a supersub (he can supposedly play all the infield positions) or instead return to the minors. there doesn't seem to be a regular place for him unless they send drew down.

It's been rumored that he might go back down to work on some things precisely because he did so well (to help him develop), as you can see from his last couple games. A lot of his big hitting came off of very weak pitching.

The answer likely lies in his performance this week. Tuesday, Chad Tracy will play an extended spring training game, then down to Tucson to play some AAA games. Depending how things go for him, he is a possibility to be activated for this coming Friday. However the following week, the D'Backs go off visiting AL teams, so a DH will be needed. Unless he falls apart, I can't see them demoting him. My guess is Callaspo goes down. This is a critical time for him upcoming.
