Giambi conspiracy theory

Before anyone says this is stupid, I'll acknowledge what I'm about to say is way out in left field.

Having said that, let's examine the facts surrounding Giambi's recent move to the DL:

1) He recently started another MLB controversy with his public remarks about steroids,
2) He's been complaining about foot pain for the past week or so.
3) He steals a base just 2 days before he is placed on the DL for a torn ligament in his foot.

Does this seem fishy to anyone else? For a ballplayer who has attempted all of 26 stolen bases in his 13 year pro career, why would he try to steal a base when he's suffering from a pain in his foot so great that it leads to him being listed on the DL just two days later? Methinks this was the solution MLB and the Yankees had for his steroid comments.

I had thought about this as well, but it seems unlikely. I do believe the SB happened before he supposedly got hurt.

Thats actually a reasonable explanation and not totally out of the realm of possibilities. However, I doubt its true. Giambi has not been convicted of anything and its not like MLB didn't know that he took the roids. Just because he admitted it doesn't mean he should have to sit out. Giambi was playing terribly and playing through an injury probably wasn't going to help. I doubt MLB forced him to do anything. My thoughts? Giambi is a wuss

Interesting, sounds reasonable though. The Giambi and steroids talk has already started to die down since his DL stint.

there is some talk of the injury being season ending...which could very well prove your theory to be true..or at least more plausible.

This is kind of like the Clemens theory, which is that Clemens was suspended for 50 games last season (this season too) but MLB kept it under the table to protect his image. The theory stems for the fact that last season he missed nearly exactly 50 games to start the season. I don't buy it, but it's a similar line of thinking.

I love conspiracy theories. No question that someone was on the grassy nole.

That said, there's no conspiracy here. The steal was not a straight steal but a hit and run where the batter swung and missed. The catcher then threw the ball into center field. Giambi has been battling the foot strain all month, and felt something "pop" while jogging around the bases after a HR in the same game that he earlier stole the base.

What is interesting, if you truely want to start a conspiracy theory is that this is the same exact injury that Mark McGuire sufferred in his career. Maybe the injury, as evidenced from Giambi and McGuire's problems, is the result of steroids and bulking up to the point where the foot ligaments cannot support the added weight.

As for Clemens, there has to be something to his "annual" retirements....
