Got Melky?

Postby superslugger616 » Fri Jun 01, 2007 10:31 pm

What are the prospects for Melky Cabrera now that Giambi is out for an extended period and he will be playing CF pretty much full time while Damon DH's? It seems like a player hitting anywhere in that lineup everyday is at least a good bench fantasy player...

Melky's got a ton of talent, but he seems to be the sort of hitter who needs to play regularly and get into a rhythm, rather than come in every now and then off the bench. Hopefully, he'll do well as the starter now. I'd take a flier on him in deep leagues.

why don't they just DH Phelps, I mean what good does Damon do not playing CF? Not like Melky is great defensively there.

Damon isn't good in CF and he's even worse when banged up with injuries. Melky is better in every way defensively and I'm not a scout, but he has a plus arm from what I've seen.

Melky is better offensively than Phelps.

This is the question the Red Sox are asking themselves now :-D

I think you're just used to seeing Damon's arm out there. I'd look like a plus arm replacing him :-b

Yep. And so is Damon, so that's how you'd have to make the lineup.
Phelps will get his AB's as an occasional DH and to play 1B now and again.

I'd say Melky is a good pickup right now.
He was the guy to jumpstart NY's offense last year, and then when Matsui and Abreu took back over, they sputtered.
