Torres Out - Capps In As Pitt Closer

Get guys like Okajima, Shields, Soriano, Jansen, that vulture saves every once in a while.

What about Gregg and Hennesey? Can you get them? Is Weathers or Accardo available?

Sounds like you are pretty much hurting in the Saves Department.

If your league counts holds then keep Torres.

Wasn't good news for me.
I'm in a 6X6 with Holds, and he was my Holds guy.
With Izzy, Hoffman and Gregg already on board (2RP and 2P slots) I actually cut him for Scott Shields as I really don't want to punt the cat.

I do agree with the doubters here, his performance recently has been below average and his save chances with Pitt will be limited. I also look at Capps having 15 holds in 23 Pirate wins, and have to wonder if the new setup guy(s) will be able to hand him the lead...

Anyway, that's my logic for this ONE team. I do feel he's worth having as a third or fourth closer, if you like to be that deep.

Blurb on ESPN today that Marte would likely pick up saves during the Capps suspension any other word on this?

I don't buy the argument that Capps won't get save opps. Pittsburgh is 8th in the majors in that category. When mediocre teams win, the games tend to be close, so I think he'll get his chances.

Yes the suspension that capps has a hearing for tomorrow I believe, from his appeal that has allowed him to keep playing

News: Marte (forearm) is feeling better and available to pitch out of the bullpen, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Spin: Marte hasn't appeared in a game since May 30. The change in closers from Salomon Torres to Matt Capps doesn't really affect him, although he may be called upon to close when Capps sits out his multiple-game suspension in the next week.

Sportsline says the appeal is Friday. Does anyone know for sure when it is?

Rotoworld says Friday too, so it looks like that's the day it's heard - here's their update:

Matt Capps is scheduled to have the appeal of his four-game suspension heard Friday.

Capps was suspended for throwing at Prince Fielder in a game last month. Pirates manager Jim Tracy said Salomon Torres would close while Capps is out.
