Giambi to the DL

Just heard on ESPN Radio - Michael Kay show - Giambi to the DL with a partial tear - will be in a walking boot. Not sure how many people are still playing him regularly but this should open up a spot for those with DL elibible leagues.

Now he is saying he will be reevaluated in 3 weeks. Some complicated sounding problem that could end his season altogether.

"Jason Giambi today was placed in a protective walking boot when foot and ankle specialist William Hamilton diagnosed him with a torn plantar fascia -- the tight band of muscle beneath the arch of the foot -- in his left foot.

Giambi had been previously diagnosed with plantar fasciaitis, which is inflammation of the plantar fascia."

According to Buster Olney, someone his size will have serious trouble coming back from this any time soon. He is saying a month or longer.

Hmm, I was feeling kinda bad dropping him to the FA list and then seeing his last two games.

I've already dropped and picked up the guy three times in our league, waiting for his normal June/July surge, but he's on my roster right now.

Worth waiting for Yahoo to get the DL tag on him and stashing him?
Or should I just drop him (again) and get it over with?

this is going to be an EXTREMELY serious injury. It's not just inflamed issue near the heel, which I've had and it hurts like hell. The tissue's torn. It's called plantar fasciatis, though I'm not sure about my spelling on that. And who knows what other ligaments may have been torn or maybe it's some kind of fracture, all I know is that this injury will linger and probably affect Giambi the rest of the season, even if he makes it back.

"I'd say it's a severe injury," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said.

While the best-case scenario likely would have Giambi returning in three to six weeks, Cashman couldn't rule out that Giambi could miss the remainder of the season.

If you have an open DL spot, be patient for Giambi to hit the DL and then stash him there. If not, then just dump him.

Well, unfortunately, we've only got 1DL spot on our rosters... but no other team has seemed interested him over the past few weeks, so I'm not all that upset about just dropping him.

Already done... picked up Hawpe and got him in the lineup for his two starts against righties this weekend.

Bleh. I guess I should just be happy to wash my hands of this guy. I've got Swisher at 1B and I'm overloaded with OF/Util, so it's not like I was going to be starting him unless he got red-hot anyway.

I am going to drop him...I have a strong feeling this is going to be a season long issue ffrom what I have read and heard. Even if he comes back late in the season, I suspect his power will be sapped b/c of this foot issue...I believe it is on the foot that he drives off.


I have shopped him for about 3 weeks (no takers) and now it is solidified that his value is next to nothing.

Worked out good for me, I dropped him about 2 weeks ago......tried to shop him, but no takers.....
