Is H. Owens going straight to the closer role in 5 days? If so, is he worth picking up for WHIP and K/9 purposes?

I hope he does close, but from what I understand the job is Gregg's to lose.

No. And maybe.
The Marlins have said they'll let Gregg run with the closer gig, even when Owens returns. For his part, Owens was doing fairly well before he was shelved, but you'd probably have to be in a deep league not to find better ratio/K middle relievers on the wire.
I think Owens' value now is in holds leagues and those where owners gobble up "next in line" closer candidates. Because if Gregg does melt down at any point (and he's looking solid now), Owens seems the most likely replacement. For now.

see Benitez thread. It looks like BOTH Gregg and Owens will now be relegated to setup status with the trade for Benitez likely to go through.

Owens is likely 3rd or 4th in line to close now. I would think the pecking order will be Gregg, Benitez, Tank/Owens.

Give Beat-Knee-tez a couple of weeks. Gregg will be back once armando blows a few more.

I'd like to retract part of my quote, which apparently was posted eight hours too soon. :-D

Actually, Freddi Gonzalez has already said Gregg will remain as closer over Benitez and the rest. (Link posted over on the closer thread in leftovers). Not sure how this plays out long-term, but Owens' fantasy value takes a hit either way.

From what I understand Benitez will be used as a middle reliever or setup man for the time being. I can't imagine Fredi tossing in another shaky and unreliable closer with Gregg pitching so well.

Gregg will remain closer even after all the trades and circumstances have set in.
