How secure is Valverde's closer job? He seems to have struggled lately, and I seem to remember him starting out dominant last year and then collapsing in May before being demoted to AAA. Any thoughts?

Struggled lately??? Last night yes, but it wasn't even a save chance and he's been unhittable in his 8 prior saves.

I think the closer position in general is the most volatile position in baseball. I think Valverde is as safe as any closer in baseball excluding the top 3 or 4 closers. I think he has 18 saves so far, so it will take a string of bad performances for him to lose the job.

Valverde has been very good this year. Before last night he had not given up a run since May 3. He had two outs last night before giving up the homerun. I wouldn't worry about him yet. Yet...

it's Valverde...he'll get you K's and he'll have those bad games. I'd say his job is safe for now.
