Dempster, Closer of Starter?

What's going on with Dempster? He's actually been mostly effective this year as the closer, and there is talk of moving him into the rotation? Anyone know what is going on? Is he worth picking up as a closer?

Due to the talk, I wouldn't trade for him, but I wouldn't mind having him on my team either. The Cubs moved Guzman to the 'pen and said that he would be groomed into the closer role, but he hasn't been too sharp since going to the 'pen. And over the last week the Cubs have had the opportunity to put Guzman in in the 9th inning for a save, or pitching Dempster the 8th and 9th inning for the save and stretching him out, but they haven't. They've shown no indications towards grooming Guzman or stretching Dempster out to become a starter. It appears to me that he is safe in the closer role, but as a Cubs fan I've learned that looks can be deceiving. My gut says he's safe, but my head knows Lou is capable of anything.

Like stated it seems like Dempster is safe but Pinellea could go off and flip it at almost anytime really.

I wouldn't deal him away just yet. Dempster is garbage after an inning or two and there's no way he'll succeed as a starter. After seeing that I don't see any reason why Piniella won't put him back in the closers slot. It's easier to groom Guzman to be a successful starter rather than Dempster.
