Trade Kim for Foulke?

Postby arf7ea » Sat May 11, 2002 12:25 am

Someone offered me Foulke for Kim. I hear Kim will lose his closer job to Mantei when he comes back (quote from Brenly). Should I do it? :-o

Not an easy decision. Kim is certainly in the zone now, which makes it hard to deal him. I haven't heard that the job will be Mantei's upon his return - where did you see that? If it's true, then you have to make the deal, no matter what the stats are now.

Even if the D-Backs are undecided about the closer situation, there's certainly the possibility that Kim could lose his job to Mantei, especially if Kim hits a rough streak. Given that danger, I'd take Foulke. Job security is the most important thing in a closer, and Foulke should improve his overall numbers.

Thanks, Arlo. I think I might hold off a few days to try to squeeze one more week out of Kim, then make the trade early next week. The report I heard was second-hand, from another Fantasy player, that Brenly had been quoted as saying Mantei would get the closer job, and Kim would wither start or set-up. I find that hard to believe, but it still got me worried. I guess we'll see.

Good thinking - waiting a week can't hurt. If anybody does hear a report quoting Brenly in this way, please let me know. Why Brenly would say this, though, is beyond me - sounds like a great way to get Kim worrying about other things than getting the last couple outs...
