Hit by pitch

Why doesn't Hit By Pitch count as a walk? After all, that's exactly what the batter gets. Surely the batter should be credited with a walk and the pitcher demerited likewise. Seems weird to me - basically HBP appears nowhere in any stats.

Oops, forgot that. Thanks.

Still, I think it should count as a walk against the pitcher.

Why? It counts as an HB already.

Totally agree it should count as a BB for the pitcher, no reason why it doesnt count min WHip

this really isnt a HB/BB arguement, but something about HB that i dont like.
when a player with a lose jersey has the ball hit the jersey while its flapping open but doesnt touch any part of the batter, yet the batter is awarded 1st on HB. im sorry, but thats BS!
im surprised MLB doesnt make players tuck in their jerseys more or have umpires use their discretion on wheather the ball hit the jersey or the batter. if it only hit the jersey and not the batter, thats a ball, not a HB.

for whip, maybe it's to balance out the fact that intentional walks count (even though ordered by the manager)?
