Lineup Question/Strategy SP vs RP points league

Postby cwrtlm » Mon May 28, 2007 12:38 am

I play in a H2H points league CBS Sportsline
I wanted to know what your thoughts are on what is the best balance of SP to RP. Here are the points breakdowns:
BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -0.5 points
CG - Complete Games 5 points
ER - Earned Runs -1 point
HA - Hits Allowed -0.5 points
INN - Innings 2 points
K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point
S - Saves 10 points
W - Wins 10 points
I have been making pretty good totals by starting 3-4 RP's and then the best starters or any 2 starters I have that week. Just wanted your thoughts on what your balance would be. One guy in our league gets every 2 SP there in that week and thus has 14 starts every week, but sometimes he has some losers starting. You can see my rosters in my Sig. :-?

From what I can see there are 3 negative cats and 5 positive cats. Of the positive cats 4 of them favor SP not RP. Based on that I'd lean towards SP rather then RP. You could discount CG due it being relatively rare. But even then K's have double the value of BBs, so they help you more then the BBs hurt you, plus INN is a totally SP cat.

The thing to do really is to run the numbers for last year through a spreadsheet and see where the most points are. That will tell you where to focus better then just eyeballing it. Last year in my points league I only used enough RPs to fill my two RP slots, and I didn't sweat saves (only 5 points) at all. Finished second just a couple of points out.
