Can Sergio Mitre keep it up?

Postby kcs261 » Sun May 27, 2007 10:25 pm

Anybody watching what he is doing? I know it's hard to believe. But he has put together 5 great starts in a row.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/player ... LB&id=3725

For the year, he has a 1.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 31 Ks to 9 BBs. The guy is 26.

Is he finally peaking? It's getting real hard to ignore. He even man handled the Mets in his last start.

watched him pitch twice this season and not impressed, but neither do a lot of guys that do well. i would say not legit and i dont know that he can handle starting games all season, but we will just have to sit and wait.

Groundball pitcher which is good. K rate isn't quite high enough. This is the first time in his career he's shown good control so not sure he can sustain that. I think at best you'd want to pick him up and keep him on your bench another 2 weeks and see what happens.

The ERA and WHIP will certainly rise but he should be a good 3rd or 4th fantasy starter the rest of the way. He induces a ton of groundballs, plays in a good pitchers park, and should get decent run support. Most likely will finish with better numbers than a lot of higher-priced, better-known starters.

I don't know... These numbers are just getting real hard to overlook.

7.2 IP, 0 ERs, 8 Ks to 1 BB - May 25
7.0 IP, 2 ERs, 3 Ks to 0 BB - May 20
7.2 IP, 2 ERs, 4 Ks to 0 BB - May 15
8.0 IP, 0 ERs, 4 Ks to 3 BB - May 10
6.0 IP, 1 ER , 3 Ks to 1 BB - May 5

The lack of walks alone is pretty encouraging. I'm starting to become a believer... He's 26 and maybe he is peaking?

"and I had him in for every start"

As did I ;-D

I spot started him the first 3 -- i.e., pick up from FA for one start and then drop -- but then said "hmmm, this guy is throwing pretty good" so I kept him.

I has him for 4 starts and my only issue is I do not see him getting many wins. Good ERA/WHIP, OK K rate, but lack of wins.
