Who's Chris Shelton?

Postby daullaz » Sun May 27, 2007 1:06 pm

No, no, I know who he is....

But it seems like every single young hitter is being compared to him. Whether a hitter starts out strong then goes through a slump or just comes out of nowhere to be special, it seems like someone is worried that that hitter is or will be Chris Shelton.

Players that have been compared to (or questioned will be) the next Chris Shelton:

Ian Kinsler
Mark Reynolds
Jack Cust
Josh Hamilton
J.J. Hardy

Who else? I'm scared to run a search for Shelton; every thread over the last year might pop up!

I think the Chris Shelton phenomenon is more appropriately applied to AAAA players like Shelton and Cust who go on crazy HR tears as compared to guys with some upside like Kinsler who are expected to develop into MLB players eventually.

But it's not like Shelton was that bad of a player... he hit 18 homers in about 100 games in 2005...

He's been on a ten year hot streak, but it's all been smoke and mirrors. I agree. :-b

Hey, I'm merely making note of the fact that Shelton's name was tossed around pretty liberally by people in the 14 HRs in 18 days ARod thread.

I agree with CMBgreatone. AROD. It just shows that anything can happen early in the season. I still dont think ARod finishes with more HR than Howard OR Pujols. If you notice, ARod is on Fire when the Yanks are 10 games back.

Just wait until the Yanks start to pull back into some kind of race. (even if it is the WC)

Is pushing for President Obama to pass a law requiring all citizens to be Chicago White Sox fans and make October 1st "White Sox Day" where we all dress as our favorite player. It maybe socialist, but I don't care.
