im in a deeper league and im burning my #2 waiver priority on him. i need the SP and there really isnt much on waivers so im stashing Gallardo aswell as keeping Andrew Miller on my bench too.
im hoping Gallardo can come up within the month, but i dont really know. his minor league numbers have been great.
my first guess would be to replace Vargas. he pitches today against SD, im hoping he gets lit up.
what about Bush? would the Brewers send him to the bullpen?
what about Capuano? would the send him to the bullpen? hes not a 2nd half pitcher..
06 2nd half = 1-8, 5.17 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, .278 BAA
05 2nd half = 8-6, 4.42 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, .251 BAA
04 2nd half = 3-3, 7.01 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, .311 BAA
i doubt they'll screw up what they started. i say later in the season, maybe july. but they wont send capuano or bush because they are proven while i do agree vargas really hasn't. i hope he does, because i drafted gallardo in a minor league draft my league did and im excited for him to come up.
He might not start in the majors this year, its hard to say. Carlos Villanueva may very well be the first option and Gallardo would go out of the pen to keep his innings down.
He pitched a few times between starts kind of like Pettitte did this year.
Regardless of what I think about Bush he has an ERA over 6 and they have other options that could fill that spot so I could see them replacing him. I just think it would be Villanueva in the rotation most likely, not Gallardo.

He started a game on 7/16, then they brought him in on 7/19 for 1.2 IP's, then tried to have him start again on 7/22, followed by 1 IP on 7/25.
He gave up 5 ER in those 2.2 IP's of middle relief. Not a good sample size to go by, and definitely not a good situation to base his abilities on since he had little rest and kept switching from starts to relieving. Might be interesting to see how he would do if he was a regular RP. Brad Lidge on a bad day when he was closing comes to mind though.
Would the Brewers move Villanueva into the rotation with him pitching so well out of the pen? I think it'd be more likely if Vargas struggles again to put Gallardo in his spot and keep trotting Villanueva out of the pen because he's been so effective.
