You couldn't trade Baldelli for a veteran starter and just bring one young guy up? They need a veteran starter in that rotation.
I don't know who to pick here because you both are trying to fix a situation with raw talent when the goal was to get into second place or at least move up. I'll go with the one that didn't try to pull from the Twins bullpen.
I disagree that you need a veteran starter to teach the youngin's. Isn't that what a pitching coach is for? Anyway the rays dont really have any huge strengths at the major league level except some OFs, and I dont think they should go off and trade all their young talent as well. I tried to make the organization better from within. At least that was my goal...
Hammel is not going to be anything more than a decent RP IMO so i agree with you there. Niemann has more talent than any of the pitchers we have in the organization, including Kaz, so i do not want him rushed at all. You have to remeber that this guy is only in his first full season in the minors due to injury. Sonnastine maybe up on Tuesday
IMO i think they should have Evan play 2B and keep Aki at 3B b/c of how great he is at defense over there, but either way they will switch them accordingly.
Both of you guys did a good job.
I haven't voted yet and i won't reveal who i did vote for when i do
The Devil Rays, ecpecially if they want to win now, need some pitching. Elijah Dukes is giving them some trouble off the field, so why not trade him for pitching? I would trade him away to the Angels for Ervin Santana. Santana has stuggled as of late for the Angels, but is still a great talent. With Kaz, Shields and Santana, the Rays will have a decent rotation, and one that can get them Wins Now as well as later.
Next, I trade away one of my big prospects, Reid Brignac. BJ Upton is starting to show that he could become a solid contributor given an every day chance, so he is now my SS of the future. I trade Brignac away to the White Sox, in exchange for Mike Macdougall, Lance Broadway and Brian Anderson. It seems the Sox are done with Anderson, ecpecially with the surge of Ryan Sweeney, so I see if Anderson can restart his career here. Macdougall was lights out for the Sox last year, but this year, Aardsmaa has been the man. Their need for Macdougall has gone down. They get a high quailty SS prospect to take over for the light hitting Uribe next year. Also, Lance Broadway is a good pitching prospect which can at least compete with the others like Niemann and McGee for a spot in the rotation, if not, trade bait or bullpen.
2007 Team after Changes
1. BJ Upton- SS
2. Delmon Young- RF
3. Carl Crawford- LF
4. Akonori Iwamura- 3B
5. Rocco Baldelli- CF
6. Ty Wiggington- 1B
7. Jorge Cantu- 2B
8. Johnny Gomes- DH
9. Dioner Navarro- C
Scott Kazmir
James Shields
Ervin Santana
Jeff Niemann
Casey Fossom
'PEN
CL- Al Reyes
SU- Mike Macdougall
Chad Orvella
Brian Stokes
Shawn Camp
This is just IMO. For fun.
Is pushing for President Obama to pass a law requiring all citizens to be Chicago White Sox fans and make October 1st "White Sox Day" where we all dress as our favorite player. It maybe socialist, but I don't care.
Interesting that not one scenario here has Dukes in the lineup at all..
Telling? I think so.
Or maybe it shows that TB is loaded with OF(Baldelli, Crawford and Young) and Dukes is the easiest to trade due to off field mishaps....
...plus it helps that he is a phyco killer.

I would agree with you on that before the season started. But I think now the face of the team is slowly shifting to Delmon Young and BJ Upton. Do you agree with me that Crawford probably will become a distraction on the team with the fact that if the Drays keep him they will probably use his club-options in 2009 and 2010. 09 is 8.25 mil with 2.5 mil buy out and 2010 is 10 mil, 1.25 mil buy out. Good chance he demands a trade next season to be a FA at the end of 08..I think the Drays can afford him for a franchise player, but I think on offense by that time the franchise players will be Young and Upton...and soon you will have to pay them.. my opinion if you can get Weaver for Crawford you do that..or actually any top pitching prospects you can get.
CC is not going to be a distraction that is not how he is. If you ever talk to CC or talk to people about him you will come to understand that he is a very silent leader out there. He does say alot to the guys, but would never make it about him. Crawford does not want to leave the Rays, he feels like we are coming around and knows that it will be soon that they can compete with the guys we have now and the ones in the minors. He signed a very friendly contract because he wants to stay with the Rays. Money for Upton, young, Kaz, Dukes etc. has been set aside for when they come up for contract. CC wants to be here, if he is moved it is b/c of something else and trust me it won't be pretty for the DRO.
The fact is it is getting close to the time where Crawford isn't worth the money that the Drays should have to pay him.. There will come a limit to the amount Crawford can discount this team. If he were on a big market or avg market team, they probably would buy out his contract after next season and give him a long guaranteed deal at 15+ mil per season. The Drays can't do that for him..I don't think he will be a distraction because I agree with you on the type of guy that he is..but i do think that he won't be around when the Drays are a competitive team..I do think that if they did trade for him, they could definitely get another Kazmir or better that is more proven than when they got Kazmir. It would be very very tough for the angels or brewers to turn down weaver or gallardo for Crawford..Actually I disagree with the response of Drays fans even though he is their most popular player..If anybody is making 1/4rd of their teams payroll and are a 70 win team they won't be popular anymore. Its that simple..Imagine if you had Kazmir Shields (gallardo, weaver, kershaw) and then the #1 pick next month possibly Price who could be major league ready next season..with Young and Upton as the center of their offense..they could be a very competitive team..Tell me would the Giants have traded Matt Cain for Carl Crawford in the 05-06 season? My guess it would have been very hard for them to turn down..How scary would that rotation be then..I know their bullpen would still suck, but its a lot easier to find good cheap RP out there..I think theyd be a lot better off had that happened.

Or maybe it shows that dukes is a psycho killer and at the time of me writing my response I couldn't do anything besides leave him on the bench. There isn't a team in the majors that would touch this guy right now, and I certainly wasn't going to start him. Had we done this a week before he most definately would have been a trade piece on my response. Or if things pan out differently over the next couple of weeks and things calm down I would have put him in the lineup...
EDIT: Since when has it become easiest to trade a guy with off-field mishaps? No team will go near this guy at this point dude. It probably wouldn't be plausible to trade this guy...

I totally disagree. Just as in football with TO and Moss, teams will be willing to take a chance on a guy with some amazing tools like Dukes, even if he comes with some off the field baggage. He has 5 tools and is having a great rookie season, and teams will take chances like that.

Theres a difference between TO/Moss and Dukes. Its called threatening you're wife's life <img src=/forums/images/smiles/kiss.gif>
I can garuntee you would not be able to get much in a trade involving dukes until something clears up...

I guess we will have to agree to disagree, but i can tell you that rumors of CC being traded get this town fired up to call radio stations and write the paper. Nothing gets Rays fans more oi$$ed than talk of trading CC. The fact is by the time CC is making that amount of money our Payroll will be highe rb/c we are paying Kaz more, Upton, Young etc contracts start to get higher as well.
