Red Sox Close To Acquiring Gagne
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Red Sox are the winner of the Eric Gagne sweepstakes pending Gagne's consent and a review of medical records. Rosenthal says Gagne might share the closer role with Jonathan Papelbon; it would not be shocking to see Papelbon become the setup man for the rest of the year. That would be a hell of a 1-2 punch regardless and a huge asset for the playoffs.

No word on which prospects went to Texas yet.

CoCo Cordero to be replaced by Gagne?

ESPN's Jayson Stark says the Eric Gagne chase is down to the Red Sox and Brewers.

He'd have to waive his no-trade clause to go to Boston, whereas the Brewers don't have to worry about that. Speculation is that the Red Sox are offering Kason Gabbard and David Murphy. The Brewers could part with Tony Gwynn Jr. and a pitcher. Both of those outfielders project as long-term reserves, but they could get a chance to start in center if acquired by Texas. Cincinnati Enquirer is saying that the Braves are offering Yunel Escobar to the Reds as well.

Reports that Dye to the Red Sox are dead. WEEI said the red sox were offering Hansen and Wily Mo Pena.
