Blanton makes a lot of sense if they tried and failed to get Jon Garland. The Mets were also interested in Blanton, with Oakland likely asking for Lastings Milledge in return. The A's would surely love to get Matt Kemp from the Dodgers, but that seems unlikely. They could ask for Andy LaRoche, Jonathan Meloan and a starting pitching prospect. They don't have third base open for LaRoche, but they could use him in left field next year."

Done. Make it happen Billy.

"don't have third base open"....HA! Make room. Chavez is in decline, big time.

They are looking to get Jeff Clement in return from Seattle for Al Reyes, Seattle has said no as of right now, but we shall see

Seattle would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO stupid if they give up Clement for Reyes. Or the older rumor of Balentien for Dotel (thank you Atlanta)... The fact that we have 32 come from behind wins (most in MLB) means two things: (1) our bullpen is better than our opponents for the most part and (2) our bullpen is stronger than our starting pitching... The only thing I could see trading our better prospects for would be good starting pitching, and none of that is on the market.

Please Bill, don't do anything stupid today. :-o

I would love Matt Kemp in Oakland, maybe he will finally start to play everyday.

huge trade here: The Cards have apparently acquired Joel Piniero from the Red Sox for a PTBNL.

Watch out, Cubs and Brewers! It's Jeff Weaver all over again!

WEEI is saying theres a rumor that Gabbard and David Murphy for Gagne.

They are saying its "too good to be true."

I agree that would be a steal.

How so? I can almost assure you Gagne will not be back in Texas next year, so at this point he just needs to go to the highest bidder no matter what the offer is. Same thing for Sosa.

I would rather have the two draft picks for losing Gagne this offseason then 2 average minor leaguers right now. If the Rangers don't get anything that helps them, no need in just giving Gagne away for players they don't want.

Good point, forgot about the picks. Do you have a link for how that works exactly? Or can you briefly explain the criteria that has to be met for a team to receive picks when players leave via free agency?

The Mets and Diamondbacks are bidding for Nationals closer Chad Cordero, whose name keeps popping up in trade talks as the 4 p.m. EDT nonwaiver deadline approaches.

The Mets offered fine pitching prospect Phil Humber for Cordero but have been firm to this point that they will not surrender any of their top four prospects: outfielders Carlos Gomez, Fernandez Martinez and Lastings Milledge, and pitcher Mike Pelfrey.

Cordero was drafted originally by Mets GM Omar Minaya. The Mets tried to get Eric Gagne earlier but appear to be targeting Cordero now.

The Diamondbacks have several excellent prospects they could offer. One name that's been mentioned in deals lately has been their outfield prospect Carlos Quentin.

Teams have been complaining that the Nationals are asking too much for Cordero, but with impact pitchers mostly unavailable, some team may have to overpay to get him.
