What does 5x5 mean??

What does 5x5 mean??

Postby Buttermilk Pancake » Fri May 25, 2007 3:01 am

I assume it is the most common points categories--R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, W, S, K, ERA, and WHIP. Is this correct??

Although, technically, 5x5 is never used in reference to a points league. 5x5, 6x6, whatever... Those are always used to describe categorical leagues. There is no "standard" per se for a points league.

The more categories you add, the more redundant you generally get, or you generally add categories that are won by chance as often as they aren't (I've seen categories like CGSO, and even Triples I consider to fall under that umbrella). 5 x 5 isn't perfect, but it's a nice base, fulfills the needs of most fantasy players, and keeps the player pool reasonable. ;-D

My only real issue with 5X5 leagues is that they don't give any value to walks. A walk should be worth something (other than an increased chance at runs).

Then just tweak the settings and replace AVG with OBP.
