Florida Marlins, Championship contenders?

Postby poopdungbeatle » Thu May 24, 2007 10:14 pm

Obviously Im not talking about this year. But in a few years, i think they might have a chance to win another championship. They have a really great base star players: Miggy, Uggla, Hanely. They have great second tier players in: Hermida, Willingham, Olivio, and aaron boone. Their pitching is good with Willis, Olsen, Josh Johnson, Annibal Sanchez.

anyone agree with me?

Unless attendance picks up in Florida, I don't think Loria is going to spend big money to bring in or keep players on that team. Business wise it's just not smart.

If you follow the history of the Marlins, they save money for years and then spend it in a bid for a title. They trade their stars and accumulate young talent and money, which is where they're at right now. IMO their rebuilding plan is going way better then expected, and I think that the purse strings loosen in a year or two.

Its not a bad way for a relatively poor franchise to compete. Why be mediocre every year?

I agree. I don't think there is a better way for a small market franchise to operate. You can't argue with 2 championships in 10 years. They must be doing something right...

And yes, I can see them making a nice run within the next couple years.

Now that is a dream series. :-)

It would probably be the lowest rated series of all time, but I would surely love it.

I've always liked the way the Marlins do business. Probably not the best way to attract fans though..

As I have complete and total mancrushes on both of these teams - I would probably fly out from California to see the whole series.

And tickets would only cost, what, $30?

I hope this day comes. I live right in the middle -- I could take out a second mortgage and attend every game. :-D
Be excellent to each other.
