Drop Lincecum and pick up Gallardo from the waivers..then both of u will be happy.
j/k
really depends on how close ur friendship is and how competitive the league is..
I'd pick him up and see what's going to happen.

This is a super competitive league with a $3000 pot but he is my best friend that I grew up with.
To make matters worse, I'm co-managing another money league team with him and it would be nice to claim Gallardo in that league as well.
If I put a claim in for the team we manage together and then he may/may not catch it. Would that be a better way to handle it than just telling him? If he doesn't notice that I put a claim in the other team, then it is his loss. Or do I just tell him?

Tell him man. Friendship > Fantasy Baseball, no matter how gay that just sounded.
But remind him that he owes you one lol.

It's at the point of betrayal of trust if you pick him up after he tells you his plans. You might as well be a good friend and do him a favor and tell him rather than letting someone else get him because I don't see how you have an option of picking him up without causing some conflict. There's life outside of fantasy baseball, no need to put a dent in your friendship over something as trivial as this.

If there wasn't a problem with it, you wouldn't be asking the question. I think you already know the right thing to do.
