well, is he?

is he just going through a rough stretch and battling some injuires or is he basically waiver wire fodder and only being hung onto because his name is Mike Mussina and he plays for the Yankees

i know he could end up racking up some decent wins but does anyone think he can get his ERA down to a respectable level?

I think 2006 was the exception and not the rule at this point. I'd expect numbers like 2004/2005 out of him. 2006 is what you get out of a 100% healthy all year Mussina and he just isn't 100% healthy all year enough to expect it.

His fastball last night didn't exceed 86 MPH at any point, and it usually sat at 84. He's done.

I thought he was done pre-2006, but he suprised me. I avoided him this year in the draft.

I didn't start him last night, and then dropped him in favor of Angel Guzman in a 12 team roto league. I don't like what I see out of him this year whatsoever.

I burned my #1 WW pick on him when someone dumped him after he hit the DL. My staff was a mess at that point and I figured he'd help when he got back.

Is the Yankees offense really worth it? It seems like people put blinders on in actually evaluating the pitcher when deciding who to draft / hang onto / use a waiver on, when it comes to a New York Yankee. I don't see how wins can be that important a category when it's to the detriment of ERA and WHIP.

Does it depend on the strategy you're using? I didn't get any top-tier closers at all, and as a result Julio, Frasor, and other guests to my team have blown up my WHIP and ERA. As a result, I've stuck to elite MRs and starters, and wouldn't touch a Yankee or other high win crappy stats guy with a ten foot pole.

But I suppose he and the rest of the team have got to turn it around some time, and if you need the wins and you've got Rodriguez and Nathan as your closers, you can stomach it.

I don't think he's "done" but how much value does a guy that will likely give you a mid-to-high 4 ERA with very low K's (3.7 K/9 so far)? Much better off having a solid MR or something in my opinion.


I think he'll end up about what he had in 2005... mid 4 ERA, 1.4ish WHIP but have 120 or so Ks. That's Kris Benson territory there.

Agree. He's probably got the most job security in the MLB. If his legs fell off, they'd still ask him to pitch. Who else will do it? I'll do it. I'll even do it for - let's say, 4 million. Somebody teach me what a baseball looks like. And I've got a nasty crack habit, so I want a 'drug binge' clause in my contract for days off. Call me every fifth day. I'll be in a little shack in Baltimore.
