His father passed away when he was 7. He shined shoes to help support the family.
He did not pick up a real bat until he was 14,
At age 16, Omar Minaya signed him to a minor league contract, giving him a $3,500 signing bonus.
He immediately sent $3,300 back to his mother, and bought himself a used bike.

He has an MVP.
He is a seven time All-Star
He twice led all N.L. players in All Star votes
He has six Silver Slugger Awards
He has hit a homerun in more ballparks than anybody in the history of the game.
He has three of the games 60 homerun seasons.
He hit more homeruns in Wrigley Field, than Babe Ruth hit in Yankee Stadium.
He is only the third player in N.L. history with five consecutive 40-homer seasons.
He is the third player in N.L. history to record eight straight 100-RBI seasons.
He has had six, 3-home run games, a record.

He has 600 Homeruns. Only four guys have more.

He saved baseball.

His run, no his full blown sprint to right field
The legendary hop out of the plate.
Not one but two taps to the heart.
The splash of water to the face.

the Kiss.
Who can forget the kiss..

You don't include McGwire in that discussion?? Not saying that I agree that he or they saved baseball but, using your context, you have to include McGwire in there. I don't think that either 1 saved baseball as you indicate. It was both of them, IMHO.

Sosa is just terrible against righties, if the Rangers care at all about winning they need to stick him in a platoon and only face lefties.

Then they need to trade him and start young guys, Sosa is useless to them and is hurting them more than helping.
