See, this is where we have to agree to disagree. You, being a Lidge owner, probably feel that once he shows improvement over a period of time, he deserves to get his closer job back. I, being a Wheeler owner, feel if it ain't broke, don't fix it and Wheeler should be left into closer until he gives away a bunch of games, if that ever happens.

Here's hoping it doesn't.

Regardless, none of us have a say in it. Reality is, Lidge is being paid closer type money and Garner loves the guy. Wheeler will def not lose the job as long as he keeps closing games successfully, but his leash is definitely shorter than it should be. Lidge is being paid 5 mil and has virtually no trade value. He becomes a FA next year so I'm sure Houston would WANT him to close just to boost his value.

Or the reverse could happen, they might want to keep his value down so they can resign him at his current level or lower.

But don't expect Lidge to be closing games. Wheeler has been solid in that role, and manager Phil Garner doesn't want to mess with a good thing.

"He's doing well and I would feel comfortable with him closing," Garner said of Lidge. "Things are going well in that part of our game and I would be reluctant go change it."

Brad Lidge-R-Astros May. 24 - 10:07 am et

Brad Lidge underwent an MRI on Wednesday which revealed he has a bruise on his lower femur near his knee.

"There's a little swelling from some of the fluid, but it's nothing major and I absolutely plan to be back in action before too long, whether (Thursday) or the next day," Lidge said. Lidge will take anti-inflammatory medications and could make his scheduled start this weekend.

Lidge to start this weekend? :-?
