He was just released in my league. Worth a pickup?

I can think of two reasons:

1) He feels genuinely bad about using steroids and wants it off his chest/conscience;

2) He sees all the animosity aimed at Bonds and other suspected users and hopes that if he fesses up the public will forgive him...

I think he does feel bad about it. He's nearing the end of his career and I'm sure he'd like to be remembered for something more than just being a cheater. Maybe he figures he's made enough money and it's time to get it all out there and do his part to clean up the mess he and others have made.

He admitted to steroid use but he didn't say when;Can't see how MLB can punish him or the Yanks void his contract for something that they don't know when it occured and at the time when it most likely occured(pre performance enhancer testing/policies) it was not banned by MLB.

Exactly. And it's not like the Yankees FO had no idea he was on roids when they offered him a huge contract. Regardless of what they try to say to the contrary, I think they knew exactly what they were getting into. Now they just want to dump his salary any way they can. I hope he stays until the end of his contract.

Dear Jason,
You never should have done the things you did. Having said that, I'm glad you've come out and apologized for doing so...and for letting the kids know drugs are bad (umm-kay) and have no place in pro-sports. Hopefully you'll inspire other players (cheaters) to admit to their mistakes, so we can forgive them and move on.

Strange that he would pick this time and place... but you have to respect him for it. I sure do.

Hopefully the Yanks won't punish someone for being man enough to fess up to a mistake. There's probably a hundred ballplayers past and present who never will.

I agree. I applaud him for being one of the few that actually are man enough to admit their mistakes. I hope the Yanks do the right thing and stop the contract voiding discussions. First off, it is not as if they did not know this or suspect it when he was signed (yes, I have no proof other than my gut feeling) and second it is not as if he was not the only steriod user they signed (see Sheffield).

something tells me if the yanks are in first place at this point there would be no talk of voiding his contract.

Yanks are just in panic mode and are looking for anything to take the focus of losing away from the media.

bottom line. yankees :~( :~( :~( :~( :~( :~( :~( :~(
