Oakland Athletics Closer Situation

(first post on the board) The rumor around the A's closer situation has been all over the place the last week or so. The story right now is that Huston Street will be watched over the next 10-14 days and if the injury does not show signs of getting better he will be shut down for the rest of the season.

As for Justin Duchscherer, as some of you on the board already made aware he had a shot in his hip for pain and is expected to miss some time. The time-line can be two days to two weeks - they just aren't sure yet. Again with him just like Street, if the injury doesn't show signs of getting better soon - he might be shut down for a while as well.

Kiko Calero, Jay Witasick, and Embree are all gunning for the closer roll and to be honest I'm just as unsure as everyone on the forum. Two roto sites are saying Kiko Calero will be the man, while RotoWire.com is saying Embree would be first and then Witasick as the set-up man.

I'm leaning towards Calero considering Embree is awful and Witasick isn't any better. All three of them shouldn't be in the closer roll, but the A's don't have a choice. Anybody who can seek into the clubhouse and find out who exactly be the closer - shoot it on over!

Justin Duchscherer (hip) could be available out of the bullpen on Saturday.
Duchscherer had a cortisone shot in his hip on Thursday. He could earn some save opportunities with Huston Street on the disabled list.
