Throwing from a mound vs. throwing on flat ground

Postby crimson knuckles » Wed May 16, 2007 9:45 pm

Why is throwing from a mound such a big step for pitchers when rehabbing back from injury? What is it that makes throwing from a mound such a dramatic step in rehab?

You always read-"Harden is finally throwing from a mound and should be back soon."

The only difference is probably intensity.

Flat ground throwing is less stressful, usually a game of catch or long toss...throwing off the mound is more geared up, closer to game speed.

Yeah exactly. You are not winding up and pushing hard off the rubber. Less toll on the body.

My buddy who played DII said its basically all about mechanics. You start there and then go to a mound. No real reason
