Are you saying that the defense was the reason he gave up 5 ERs yesterday and that he gave up 5 ER against Philly and that the Boston game should be thrown out because - it's Boston? Making sure I understand you.
I agree if the Boston game stood alone as a bad game you could throw that out, but along with the other 3 to make it 3 out of his last 4, I don't think you completely ignore it. Also if it's poor defense for a couple different starts, well the defense isn't going to change any for the rest of the season so that has to be factored in. His drop from over 6 k/9 in April down to 4.4 k/9 since (closer to his last couple years) makes me think he did start out hot in April.
Not saying he's a bum, but saying we can't selectively throw out the entire 2006 season in lieu of recent numbers this year, but then throw out 3 of his last 4 starts in lieu of the rest of this season. So what do you think he'll end up with ERA and K-wise?
I was on the sell high bandwagon and traded him for Sheets a few weeks back.
Good work. Hudson should be good but I expect Sheets to be better.
How good, you think? Would you say he ends up with U/O a 3.7 ERA (considering he started off with 3.0 ERA for the first 2 months that would give him roughly a 4.0 ERA from here on)?

I would say mid 3ish ERA.

I don't think anyone thought he'd keep his ERA in the high 1's to low 2's, but don't let these past 5 games fool you. He's still pitched fairly well in all of them except the Boston game. Last night he had some bad luck, but pitched fairly well IMO. He was hurt by errors twice, and because Cox had him Intentionally walk Ramirez, the sac fly by Cabrera was earned, and then he gets Hermida out on strikes, but McCann can't hang onto it. I think he'll win another 8 games at least, and his ERA should be in the mid 3's the rest of the year.
Is it me, or is part of the right side of every page on here cut off now?
It's just you. And I realize that there was some bad defensive play. But if that happened last night and May 25 against Philly, as another poster suggested, then you gotta think that has to be something you factor in as continuing to happen every once in a while.
Guys, the problem with the "right side" is being discussed in the Contributions forum. There is currently a problem for some users depending on the browser you use. You'll have to check in there for more info.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
