You can make contact and end with an out, but at least you make contact. You can make contact on a foul tip, pop out, etc. On the next pitch you can get a walk.
These are mutually exclusive, you don't need to add them.....is this really a complicated thing?

Anyhoo, I have to ask, what the crap are you talking about? I thought I knew what contact rate was, but you've definitely confused me. What does "...on the next pitch you can get a walk..." mean? It almost seems like you're saying contact rate is based on each pitch, not each at bat... care to explain?
