He was once a top prospect for the Rangers and A's. He had trouble with striking out too much, but has started to hit the ball the other way now. He has 7 HR and is batting over .270. If the Rays give him more playing time, like i think they will do you think he will pan out to be what he was supposed to?

ok so he is 2-2 with a run again so far tonight. He is starting to hit the ball the pther way and not just pull it. I mean he was the 10th pick overall, anyone else think he could turn into a nice option at the util spot?

He was a very good young player. IIRC, the A's rushed him and then kind of babied him and finally traded him.

I was a big fan at the time. His trade to the Tigers was the coup de gras to his hitting skills for some reason.

I was glad to see him in ST with the Rays. He looked good, and if he hits the way he was supposed to with the A's, he is a solid 1b.

Didn't he have a similar numbers a few years ago with the Tigers.... only to end up back in the minors and then cut? He's been around for a while and I really wouldn't hold my breath on him figuring it out. I wouldn't put too much stock in the where he was drafted. A lot of top picks don't even make it to the big leagues.

Absolute best case, he's a really, really cheap source of HR while killing your average. Basically his 2004 season. I think that's his upside.

I personally think he still has a large skill set and still has some potential. Though, I think he wasted on the Devil Rays since they don't need offense and have other guys capable of playing 1B. I think he would be a great fit for the Giants. He's be an upgrade over Aurilla at 1B and he's a lefty which plays well in SF. He sorta reminds me of the situation and Adrian Gonzalez was in a few years ago with the Marlins then the Rangers, and finally showing what he can do with the Padres.

Absolutely. It's hard to even call him streaky. He's just OFF or ON.
