IMO gordon will never close for philly again. they'll either keep him on the DL all year, trade him, or move him into setup. JMO.

Sounds about right. It wouldn't hurt the phillies to trade Gordon away to some team desparate for another arm in the 'pen. The phillies seem to be pulling out a decent set-up with Alfonseca and peeps. So yeah, that statement seems true.

Gordon

Postby mcd285 » Fri May 18, 2007 8:22 am

May 16 Gordon, who is out with inflammation in the rotator cuff, should start an intensive program next week that would include throwing.
Advice: Assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Wednesday he doesn't know when Gordon would be able to pitch competitively. Gordon will go to Clearwater, Fla. early next week for his program.

does anyone have any fact based evidince that Gordon wont reclaim the closer role, or are they all just Meyers owners wearing rose colored glasses?

i know he wasnt all that effictive before he went on the DL, but the injury is likely why

RHP Tom Gordon is expected to be cleared to begin a light conditioning program Friday, Phillies assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. Gordon, who has been on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, was hospitalized for three days last week because of an upper respiratory infection that caused a 104-degree fever. Amaro said Gordon may travel to the Phillies' facility in Clearwater, Fla., next week to receive more intensive conditioning. But Amaro said it hasn't been determined when Gordon will begin throwing or pitching in games.

FANTASY ANALYSIS
Keep Gordon reserved for now and hope for a speedy recovery. It is unknown if he will return to closing once he returns with the way Brett Myers has pitched.

rotowire

May 13 Gordon (rotator cuff inflammation) remains hospitalized with an upper respiratory infection, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Recommendation: Gordon, who was admitted Friday, will undergo further testing at the hospital. Brett Meyers will continue to be the team's closer while Gordon is out, and may retain the job even after Gordon's return.

Jun 3 Philadelphia Phillies CL Tom Gordon (shoulder) made approximately 55-60 tosses on flat ground, from a distance of 90 feet, Sunday, June 3, according to Ken Mandel of Philadelphia.Phillies.MLB.com. He expects to continue his rehab in Clearwater, Fla., and will likely throw again, Tuesday, June 5.
