Wow, that Blue Jays management is so honest and forthcoming with the fans

Maybe he's got naked pics of Ricciardi.

I dont have a problem with Gibbons doing this at all. Guys should get benched in the major leagues more, not less. If he thought that a good punishment for Rios after an altercation in the clubhouse was a bencing, then so be it. Maybe it iteaches him a lesson.
Is Gibbons a good manager? I don't think so (but I also don't know the ins and outs of that clubhouse), but was this particular move bad? I don't believe so either... in fact, if anything the Jays "lying" benefits the team.

Gibbons isn't a good manager, simple as that. He will be unemployed my year's end.

Now I may be giving him too much credit here, but it is possible that Gibbons really hates his job right now. When you want out of a terrible situation, you do things that make you look stupid and force the GMs hand.
Now most people would just suck it up or resign, but Gibbons isn't most people. So he figures he'll make unfavorable decisions to help open the emergency exit out of Toronto.
What about another possibility...was there a possible trade in the works that night to send Rios elsewhere and Gibbons was told not to play him at all that night???
