Player-games limit, Newbie LM Question

I'm the LM in an ESPN league and we have a player-games limit. My question is whether the limit applies only to the total number of player games or whether it also applies to each position.

For example, an owner has a lousy DH but two good 1Bs. Could he simply bench the DH on days when one of his 1Bs has the day off and put in the other 1B to get the same number of player-games? In the end, he would have more than 162 games played at 1B and fewer than that at DH. Is this allowed?
