I agree with the above but just as the original poster said, who's to say Lilly would have pitched the same if the runner was still on third...too much speculation I think.
Oh well, still a solid outing and...THE CUBS WON!

The whole concept of unearned runs is pretty silly in the first place. There are tons of plays that aren't made that cost the pitcher runs but don't count as an error. Just because there happened to be an error that should have been a 3rd out doesn't mean a pitcher who lets in 5 more runs didn't pitch poorly.
They should just do away with unearned runs.
