The line-up protection theory is one of the biggest misconceptions in baseball. The theory has been debunked by various sabermetricians.
Whether a batter is surrounded by Alex Cora, and Brian Schneider, or by Albert Pujols and David Ortiz, there is no statistical difference in a players
independent production.
i'm sorry....are you serious ??

He has to be hurting. He tattooed a ball last night that last year would have cleared the wall easily instead ended up on the warning track. With the team struggling offensively, he is trying too hard and playing through an injury. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he landed on the DL.

I wonder about him playing hurt as well. I just can't think of any other reason. His BB rate is pretty consistent, and I can't imagine him forgetting his plate discipline.

yeah, i think a hidden injury might be the answer to why pujols is doing so badly. that's the only reason why i'm hesitating on offering beltran for pujols straight up right now.

Count me in the group who thinks he's playing through an injury. This is Al Pujols, he doesn't slump like this for no reason.
