Russ Ortiz (elbow) threw off a mound on Sunday and could leave early this week for a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A San Jose.

Ortiz could be moved to the bullpen when he is activated from the disabled list so that Tim Lincecum can remain in the rotation. "I can't answer that because that might not be the case," Ortiz said about moving to the bullpen. "I don't want to go down that road. When I have the opportunity to be activated, I'll deal with that when the time comes."

i've watched every pitch of the game so far and this kid has matched oswalt pitch for pitch...he is absolutely settling in...i just don't see how the giants could justify sending him down for russ freakin ortiz...if luke scott didn't rob klesko of rbi single, lincecum would've stayed in to get the win...he retired last 9 batters he faced...i'm sold...he's legit, even at this level.

I would not be surprised if the Giants just dumped Ortiz.

You see, this to me is terrible advice from "cbs sportsline." :-t

You don't bench a player because you don't think they'll get the win. Santana pitched great the other day but lost, but his owners still got great production out of him.

Those of you that have two studs facing each other, the answer is alway start BOTH of them!

Agreed...except that I don't think Tim Lincecum could have been considered a "Stud" before this performance. If he continues this it'll definitely be up for debate though.

That is terrible advice, you're right. I could honestly care less who they're going against. That's 1 category v. 3, and is a no-brainer.
