Time to Pick Up Slowey/Garza?

Postby BMcP » Sat May 12, 2007 5:19 pm

Ponson shelled again today by the Tigers - the change should be imminent. Just to be clear, is everyone in agreement that Slowey is the guy?

Garza has more experience and better seasoning, and even though Slowey's numbers are better I think Garza has a slight edge on him right now.

I actually think Perkins would be next.

Don't forget Baker, who is pitching very well in AAA and has some significant major league experience.

We all know how much the Twins value experience.

These guys need to move some of those stud young arms for offensive help.

Garza has pitched well with his most recently outing striking out 7. My guess he will be called first because of his major league expirence.

someone needs to be called up, Ponson will be released.
rotoworld..
The Twins will release Sidney Ponson today, according to the Star-Tribune.
A better move if it had made a month and a half ago. No word yet on who is going to replace him in the rotation. Kevin Slowey remains the logical choice, even if he's the only possibility not currently on the 40-man roster.

EDIT-
i think Slowey should get the call, he has the better numbers in AAA. even Scott Baker has better numbers than Garza.
Slowey= 3-2, 1.51 ERA, 0.62 WHIP, 41.2 IP, 24 H, 2 BB, 38 K
Baker= 3-1, 2.70 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, 36.2 IP, 26 H, 4 BB, 34 K
Garza= 2-2, 3.75 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 36 IP, 40 H, 15 BB, 41 K

Numbers are not the only thing they look at.

Matt garza would be my clear choice.

But im leaning at them giving perkins a shot b4 they make the move.
Just traded BButler, BWood & JLoney for Mark Teixeira, Ryan Theriot & Renyel Pinto in a DYNASTY LEAGUE. Big gamble I know!

Well Slowey isn't even in Yahoo's database...

Garza would be the safest bet, but Perkins is already there and they could use a bat off the bench to help shore up the lineup.
