Ortiz and Hafner at 1B (when?)

Postby commence8 » Thu May 10, 2007 11:34 am

I have both of these guys on my team, but I can't use them til they have 7 games of eligibility at 1B because my league has no utility spots. Hafner has 1 so far and Ortiz has none.

With Youkilis' injury, I was hoping that Papi could play a few at 1B, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Hafner played 1 game at 1B, but that's it.

---

*Are these guys really that inept at playing a position?
*Will they at least play 1B when interleague play comes?
*If I had to drop one of them, who has the lesser chance to get 7 games at 1B?

I would deal one of them. The owner in my league has ortiz and hafner right after draft because he didnt look at the position elgibilty closely. I promptly targeted Hafner and solved that "problem" for him.

Hafner is like 4th in depth at 1B, after Garko, Blake, Vmart... With Blake at 3rd now b/c Marte injury, he's 3rd. He will play during interleague, but whether he plays or not has nothing to do with fielding skills.

This thread could be a sticky also.

Are you sure you want these lazy guys taking the field? DH - what a joke.

Well, I spent a mid-round pick on Ortiz and picked up Hafner as a free agent after he got his 1st game at 1B so I haven't really spent too much on them.

I can afford to stash these guys away for now, but DL stints from Carpenter and Mauer is making my bench very short.

It's looking like if I were to drop one of them...Hafner would be the guy to drop???

Bench: Mauer (DL), Aurillia, Hafner, Papi, and Sweeney (Hafner, Papi, and Sweeney can't be used til they get 7 games at 1B)

Pitchers:

SP: Contreras
SP: Bonderman
SP: Rich Hill
SP: Kelvim Escobar

Both Ortiz and Hafner play their 7th away interleague game on June 22nd, in a series that lasts 2 more games. So by 6/24, each team will have had 9 chances to start them.

Ortiz played 1st in all 10 chances last year, while Hafner only played 4 times. (I'm correct there are 20 IL games - 10home/10away - every year now?)
