With Eric Milton going on the 15-day DL, sportsline is reporting that Bailey may be called up to take his place...I guess Bailey is supposed to pitch on Saturday in the minors, but the Reds may push that back so he can start Sunday in Milton's place:
Homer Bailey, SP CIN
News: Right-hander Homer Bailey, the Reds' top draft pick in June 2004, is 3-1 with a 1.83 ERA in six starts for Triple-A Louisville. Although GM Wayne Krivsky didn't rule out a promotion, he noted Bailey's pitching schedule wouldn't coincide with Sunday's opening. "He just turned 21," Krivsky said. "He's still learning."
Analysis: Well, Saturday is Bailey's day to throw, so moving him back a day for Sunday's opening shouldn't be a problem. The question is whether Bailey is ready. We would think so, but we're usually seduced by potential and forget how young these players are. Take an immediate flier on Bailey just in case. He's an elite pitching prospect we have called the next Josh Beckett.
Anyone else heard anything?
