Ryan Sweeney, Will he stay up?

Postby crapshooter » Thu May 10, 2007 7:43 am

I've got to make a decision on Ryan Sweeney. Either activate him or lose. I hate to give up good prospects. Do you think he will stay up after Thome comes back? Ozzie seems to like the guy.

This should make it an easy decision...

Guillen said Tuesday that Sweeney probably would be the odd man out once Jim Thome is activated from the disabled list because he needed to play every day. It's a discussion he had with general manager Ken Williams prior to Wednesday's game and the decision does not appear to be quite as clear cut.

"We do not have any decision yet, because we don't know how far [away Thome is]," Guillen said. "The decision will be made how many days [Sweeney] is going to play and how many at-bats he's going to get.

"Is he ready to play? No, not really, really, really at this time. Maybe later on in the year he is. Sweeney has a lot of confidence and he does a lot of good stuff. But he's a little behind. He's a baby."
