Garett Atkins: Slow Start or Bust?

Remember that he had a great second half last season and a ridiculously good September. He's still showing a tremendous batting eye and good contact rate. He's just getting a little unlucky. Show him the sort of patience that he shows at the plate and you'll be rewarded in kind.

ScrappyDoo wrote:I think you are panicking. First of all for those of you saying hes had only one year. This is his third full year in the league. His first he put up ROY numbers. And last year he was a monster.

Hes a second half player. Last year he hit .356 with an OPS of 1.062 after the break with 18 HRs. Maybe he wont put up the same numbers HR wise as he did last year. He still has power.

I read it somewhere here, but last year he hit more balls 380 feet or further than any one in the majors. Ortiz, Pujols, Howard, etc.

Just relax. I can, I got him as a keeper in the 23rd round.

Nice post. I'm holding onto him and starting Glaus in his stead until he comes alive and Glaus goes south. ;-D

Atkins will be fine. He's seemed to be very unlucky so far this year 0 lots of hard hit balls that were caught and such. I think he's in for a good season, and as someone pointed out, he raked in the 2nd half last year.

Bust...

Postby TheGNUru » Wed May 09, 2007 7:06 pm

I've tabbed him as a big time bust since day 1. Not a bad player but an average 3b.

Bust. He will still be solid, but he's not going to put numbers up anywhere close to that of what he did last season.

Well, I'd call that a bust if he isnt going to put up numbers anywhere near what he did last year!
