I am the owner of the Braves in a new keeper league. 14 teams. $300 cap. H2H 6x6, with OPS and holds the other categories. We are drafting for 13 unsnaked rounds to fill up our teams after we pared down the team rosters down to 15.
So far these players have been taken:
Round 1:
2B Alfonso Soriano $1
SP Roy Oswalt $1
OF Vladimir Guerrero $12
SP Pedro Martinez $16
SS Jose Reyes $1
SS Nomar Garciaparra $11
SP Javier Vazquez $6
OF Gary Sheffield $11
SP Curt Schilling $10
SS Miguel Tejada $5
RP Keith Foulke $6
OF Barry Bonds $16
SP Tim Hudson $3
3B Eric Chavez $5
Round 2:
SP Barry Zito $1
OF Lance Berkman $4
SP Mark Mulder $3
SP Jason Schmidt $6

Just a note about salaries--these salaries you see are based on actual players' salaries last year. The "fantasy" salary is determined by multiplying the number of years you want to "sign" a player to by the "actual" salary.
Now, obviously, I need to find a 3B or a 1B. My question is whether I should go after a stud starter before they're gone, a solid 1B, or the stud OF that everyone passes over because of the salary (i.e. Manny)?

I would continue to grab low-priced studs, then fill in with expensive guys later, once you see a run of them start. Keeper leagues are all about getting studs for $1, and there's still a few out there:
Phil Nevin $5
Fred McGriff $4
Jeff Kent $8
Rickie Weeks $1 (not going to help a lot this year, but should do great in 2005)
Aaron Boone $4
Morgan Ensberg $1
Kaz Matsui $4
Orlando Cabrera $3
AJ Pierzynski $1
Scott Podsednik $1
Brian Giles $9
Alex Sanchez $1
Aubrey Huff $1 Rocco Baldelli $1 Carl Crawford $1 Dunn/Kearns $1
Jay Payton $2
Pitchers:
Wade Miller $1
Brian Lawrence $1
Jake Peavy $1
Johan Santana $1 Sean Burnett $1 (stash on bench for 2005)
Jorge Julio $1
Luis Ayala $1
Octavio Dotel $2
No problem, after seeing the lack of starting pitching available, I would probably take Johan Santana or Wade Miller in your next pick, maybe even next two picks. There is a lot more offense at steal prices than pitching, so grab the pitching before it's gone.

I'd go with a couple of pitchers. Santana and Dotel look good to me. Can't beat the prices either.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
