MLB Teams have been lying to the media since the turn of the century. Its just that now, the self righteous media, the rush to get a scoop at all costs, that disturbed need to know that we all have ...
That made it news I guess.
In the past, the Media actually protected the players and the teams. Now its an us against them mentality. Its our fault. We watch.
I agree that MLB teams shouldn't lie about player injuries. I don't think they owe anything to fantasy players per se, but I don't think it's in the best interest of any business or public figure to ruin their credibility.
I think the commissioner's office should become more active on this front.
Worse than the Carpenter situation was the BJ Ryan situation. If I was an executive at MLB, I'd be quite concerned with the comment I saw from Blue Jays GM Ricciardi.
"Two weeks ago, after two blown saves, the Jays put Ryan on the 60-day DL with what they said is a left elbow strain. At the time, the Jays said they did not believe his so-called back injury had anything to do with his arm trouble.
"First of all, it wasn't B.J. Ryan's back that was bothering him," Ricciardi said on the radio. "It was his elbow that was bothering him. So we said it was his back so we could have a bit more time."

That's true but we are the ones that pay the GM, the media and ultimately the players themselves. I think deceiving the hand that feeds you is not the best way to go about your business. But fans will still comeback regardless so it's pointless.

Yost doesn't come out and say anything and now teams don't know whether he'll be available to come out and pinch hit or not so they have to make their in game decisions based on a guess rather than the facts.
Agreed. Another point is that GMs who need to make a trade do not want to lay all their cards on the table. If one GM knows how desperate another is he can use that to his advantage in negotiations.

Wait a minute, who exactly has Ricciardi "lost all credibility" with after this quote? The media? Fantasy baseball players? Other GM's?
I assure you it couldn't be Toronto fans, b/c he already had very little credibility among those of us who've been watching his teams play the last several years.
You've got a diamond, You've got nine men You've got a hat and a bat, And that's not all..
Who gives a crap if the MLB lies to us fans an the media or not? Doesn't it help that particular team win more games, otherwise the team wouldn't be lying? OK, so it hurts fantasy baseball players, but who cares? In the end, the GMs are just doing their best to win games...
