He's eligible to come off of the DL on the 17th. I think its not too early to speculate whether he will slide right back into the closer role or not. There's really only two options Manuel can take: give Gordon his closer job back immediately and let Myers go back to rotting in middle relief or take his time and let Myers keep closing until he screws up.
The first option seems more common. Especially when your talking about established names like Eric Gagne, who has a permanent claim on closing regardless of how well Otsuka pitches. Gordon is also in the middle of a three year deal that certainly pays him closer money.
On the flip side, Gordon was never an established career closer like Gagne. Since being converted to the bullpen, he's been more of an 8th inning man most of his career until the Philly officially signed him as a closer. So it is entirely possible Manuel would revert Gordon back to the setup role he knows so well. What do you guys think?

he definitely has closer's stuff when hes healthy, the problem is hes just not very healthy often. when he was on last year he was one of the best and safest closers around. i dont think myers is rotting in middle relief. hes pitching very important 7th and 8th innings for a team who has a terrible bullpen. i still think hes more valuable to the team as a starter but hes filling a huge void right now.
i dont think gordon will come off on the 17th when hes eligible either. i think its going to be longer than that and i think myers will have shored up the closer's role at that point.

I don't think Gordon will be back either. Irritation & inflamation of the rotatorcuff sounds like it could be a while, and a premier pitcher like myers will probably not be knocked out of his new role unless he scews up majorly.
As a Myers owner, I hope Gordon comes back as the closer. I need Myers as a SP!

This situation gets me thinking, did the Phillies know about Gordon's arm problems long before he hit the DL and could that be the reason why Myers was sent to the bullpen, so that he could be eased into the closer role? Dare I say, could Charlie Manuel be smarter than the dolt us Myers owners painted him to be just two weeks ago?
