Well...players are never officially out for the year, like being placed on IR in football, but there is no indication that he will throw a pitch this year.

Twins fan here...

I heard the announcers say during a game last week that they were totally shutting him down for the year, not even having him throw until spring training next year.

It's probably good for the long run, but for this season, he's out.

I can't help but say how much I am looking forward to a rotation with Santana and Liriano next year. Gonna be sweet.

I read reports he is taking part of a "throwing program" right now. CBS also mentions it. Not coming back til next year though.

Was there ever any chance that he would be back this year?

None. The Twins may not be rich but they are not fools.

Is he expected to be ready for the start of 2008?

Can we expect an immediate return to form?

How much longer is Santana under contract? Are they going to lose him after next year?

I think they'll franchise Johan. Or at least extend him 5 more years.
