he used to be a catcher for the pirates i know that. they started using him at 1b and some rf after paulino and cota were the primary catchers for the team...i dont think he has much upside.

all I know is that I'm riding him in one team after Piazza went on the DL.

His multiple eligibility is also pretty good... but I don't know if we can expect this production to be kept all season long.

He's a 20/80 kinda guy over 500 ABs who is catcher eligible...who needs upside?

That said, he's going to be shuffled around a lot (playing all three positions that he's eligible for this year). Most likely he'll play 5 days a week (I hope) unless someone gets hurt, so he'll get the equivalent of about 400 ABs probably.

He's definitely usable at Catcher, but he won't be worth a starting spot at 1b or OF long-term.

He is a super sub who can play C. He has alot of pop in his bat. He's a somewhat unheralded prospect, who has performed well in the minors, but is not what the scouts consider a top rated rookie. He seems to be producing in his 2 weeks so far, so stash him if you can get him and have a roster spot.

He's a bit of a Defensive liability at C, so he got pushed out of that spot last year full time. Why he's not playing 1B over Lachoke every day is beyond me.

Because LaRoche is better.

One hot week for Doumit and one cold month for LaRoche doesn't change the fact that LaRoche is a far better player. He's got a proven track record in the bigs, Doumit has nothing but an injury-riddled past.

Oh, and LaRoche is an excellent defensive player and Doumit is...well...a catcher.
