If you need gas, get it the day before or the day after! Remember Friend: Don't Pump Gas NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Don't pump gas on.May 15th
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in a lot of places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
Now I know it's flawed because we'll all be buying gas anyway (day before, day after, whatever), but what kind of message would it send if every gas station across the country didn't sell one single gallon of gas on May 15th? Think there wouldn't be some power in numbers? Could spur all kinds of things, such as the gas companies being worried about a boycott of one particular chain for being greedy crooks (Exxon I'm looking at you!) or many other things.
I think worst case is it gets Exxon's (and all the other dirty crooks) attention.
So do as you wish, but I won't be buying gas on May 15th.

If enough people do it, then yes.
Reasoning: A successful boycott of gas would be an amazing feat, even if only for one day. Now if we can boycott gas completely for one day, why wouldn't it be reasonable to think we could boycott Exxon (for example) for a week (?) month (?), or even the rest of the time they are in business?
Stick yourself in Exxon's position, or Shell, or any other gas company's spot. Wouldn't you be concerned if the entire country could band together on an issue that very well could put you out of business?

Attention to what? Why would any company pay attention to sales on an arbitrary, non-holiday-specific day? Oil companies will see that average sales for may 14-16 were perfectly normal.
The only thing that will get anybody's attention will be if people proved they could go without anything related to gasoline for a day. Ride a bike 25 miles to work. Ride a rickshaw to lunch. Shut down all gas-driven public transportation. Have truckers rickshaw their semi trailers. Mow your lawn with hand clippers. Shut down oil-driven power plants. That'll show 'em!

You don't think they are paying very close attention to every nickel right now? Gas prices change daily and it's not unusual to see gas change prices more than once in a day. Someone's watching very closely to sales .
And as I said before, it's not about the money, it's about showing the overchargers a united front. If the country could manage to do that, then we could really put some fear in them and force them to lower their prices to a reasonable level (and they'd still be making a profit!) to ensure that they continue to get business.
I think this would be quite interesting if enough people would do it. Not like it's really that hard to make sure you don't purchase gas on one specific day, is it? My gas buying won't be between those three days. I'll fill both of my cars on the 11th or 12th and sit back and hope everyone does the same.

I wish I could say that. My cars both get 30+ MPG but I still burn through tanks a whole lot faster than that.
